02 Azure Certification Roadmap

The right certification path depends on the role you want — not on how many badges you can collect.

Microsoft offers several Azure and security certifications that support different career directions.

In this GoHackersCloud Azure career path, we are focusing on:

  • AZ-900 — Azure Fundamentals

  • AZ-104 — Azure Administrator

  • AZ-500 — Azure Security Engineer

  • AZ-305 — Azure Solutions Architect

  • SC-900 — Security, Compliance & Identity Fundamentals

  • SC-200 — Security Operations Analyst

  • SC-300 — Identity and Access Administrator

  • SC-100 — Cybersecurity Architect

These certifications should not be treated as one long mandatory sequence.

Instead, choose based on:

  • your current experience

  • your technical background

  • your cybersecurity interests

  • your target job role

  • your hands-on Azure experience

  • your career stage

Before choosing a certification, ask:

What job am I preparing for?

That single question will make the roadmap much clearer.

A learner targeting SOC roles should not follow exactly the same path as someone targeting Cloud Security Architecture.

Likewise, an experienced administrator may not need the same starting point as a fresher.

If your objective is entering cloud or cybersecurity, a practical path could be:

Your first job may be:

Do not wait until you have completed every certification before applying.

you may be able to move faster.

but are new to Azure, do not jump directly into advanced Microsoft security tools.

AZ-104 gives you operational understanding.

AZ-500 adds:

  • platform protection

This combination is highly relevant to Azure security roles.

🔍 Path 6 — SOC Analyst / Security Operations

If your goal is:

  • SOC Analyst

  • Security Operations Analyst

  • Detection Analyst

Not everyone needs to earn every certification in that sequence.

The value is in building the combined skill set.

Instead of:

AZ-500 Certified.

Add capability:

Implemented Azure RBAC, network security controls, and cloud-security monitoring in hands-on lab environments aligned with Azure Security Engineer responsibilities.

For Sentinel:

Investigated simulated security incidents using Microsoft Sentinel and documented evidence, timeline, and remediation.

Choose certifications to close a skill gap.

Do not ask:

Which certification comes next numerically?

Ask:

Which skill do I need next for the role I want?

That is a far stronger career strategy.

Build the role first. Use certifications to validate the journey.
